JDM Traditional Japanese Car Mazda Roadster

The Roadster is an open-type lightweight sports car manufactured and sold by Mazda. The 1st generation appeared in 1989, and the current model is the 4th generation.

The origin of the name Roadster comes from horses for sports and equestrian competitions, and light carriages that place the utmost importance on speed. In terms of automobiles, it refers to a spartan and sports-oriented two-seat open car that prioritizes weight reduction.

The 1st generation appeared in 1989. At first, it was sold as the "Eunos Roadster" because it was sold under another Mazda brand, "Eunos." The engine was a simple mechanism that drove the rear wheels with a 1.6 liter. It achieved an ideal 50:50 front/rear weight distribution when two people were on board, making it a car full of fun to drive. In 1993, reflecting the voice of the market, a minor change was implemented to increase the displacement to 1.8 liters. In addition, it has become a model that attracts many fans, such as announcing special models every year.

In 1998, the 2nd generation appeared. Since the Eunos brand had already ended, it became the "Mazda Roadster". The base is an improved version of the 1st generation, but the retractable headlight, which was the most distinctive feature, has been changed to a fixed type, giving it a modern look. In addition to the 1.8-liter engine that was used from the previous generation, a 1.6-liter engine was installed. The 1.8-liter model is newly combined with a 6-speed MT.

In 2005, the 3rd generation appeared. The platform used in the RX-8 has been redesigned and improved specifically for the Roadster. A new 2-liter engine was also installed. In addition, the body size became larger and became 3 number size, and the vehicle weight also increased. And the roadster-like running taste was unchanged.

It also won the Japan Car of the Year award in the same year. In 2006, the "Roadster Power Retractable Hard Top (RHT)" equipped with an electric hardtop was added. This model uses an electrically retractable roof that can be retracted into the seat back space between the wheelbases in about 12 seconds without sacrificing trunk space.

The 4th generation of the current model was announced simultaneously worldwide in September 2014. Although the installed engine has the smallest displacement of 1.5 liters in history, it has achieved an amazing lightness of about 1 ton, which is on par with the 1st generation, through thorough weight reduction. It is finished in a car that does not make you feel a lack of power.

A retractable hardtop model "Roadster RF" is also available. The RF model is a model that changes the roof from fabric to metal, allowing you to enjoy an open car more comfortably. The exterior has a stylish design like a coupe or fastback, and the roof can be opened and closed electrically, making it comfortable.
