JDM Traditional Japanese Car Subaru Legacy

Legacy is a luxury specialty sedan and station wagon manufactured and sold by Subaru.

Legacy is a sedan and station wagon equipped with a horizontally opposed engine starting from Subaru 1000 and featuring 4WD realized by Leone. The etymology of Legacy means a great legacy. As its name suggests, it inherits Subaru's traditional technology such as horizontally opposed engine and 4WD system, while continuing to mature and refine it for the next generation.

The 1st generation Legacy appeared in 1989. The newly developed body was wedge-shaped, similar to Alcyone, a high-end coupe that was Subaru's flagship car at the time. In addition, the futuristic styling such as the blister fender and black canopy was impressive. In October of the same year, the Touring Wagon GT was added. Equipped with a DOHC turbo engine that generates 200ps inherited from the sedan RS, the clear character of a high-performance wagon that had never existed before was supported, and it became very popular when it was released.

The 2nd generation appeared in 1993. In the exterior, while inheriting the design of the 1st generation, the body rigidity, comfort, and power performance were improved, making it a model with an overall level of perfection. The horizontally opposed 4-cylinder DOHC turbo engine adopts a sequential twin turbo, and it is also the model that reached the maximum output of 280ps for the first time in the world as a mass-produced 2.0L MT car.

The 3rd generation appeared in 1998. The drive system has been unified into full-time 4WD for all vehicles, and the sedan has been given the subname of "B4". The exterior is characterized by the adoption of two upper and lower headlamps, and the adoption of HID lamps on the upper grades. In the interior, it is also a feature that the American high-end audio brand McIntosh audio has been set as a manufacturer option.

The 4th generation was introduced in 2003. The size has been increased to respond to the European market and improve collision safety performance. With a more luxurious interior and exterior design and a 5-speed AT, it has evolved into a model with an even higher premium. In addition, the "3.0R EyeSight" and "2.0GT EyeSight" equipped with the driving support system "EyeSight" appeared from the improved model in May 2008.

The 5th generation was introduced in 2009. In response to requests from North America, the body has become even larger than its predecessor, with a standard body width of 1,780mm. The 4th generation engine was larger than the 4th generation model and had a lineup of 3 types: 2.5L horizontally opposed 4-cylinder SOHC engine, 2.5L horizontally opposed 4-cylinder DOHC turbo engine, 3.6L horizontally opposed 6-cylinder DOHC engine set only for Outback.

The 6th generation was introduced in 2014. The touring wagon was abolished, leaving only two models: the 4-door sedan “Legacy B4” and the crossover SUV “Legacy Outback”.

As for the exterior, the body is 50mm longer and 60mm wider than its predecessor. The front uses a hexagon grill with integrated bumper and hawkeye headlamps, while the rear combination lamps share the same motif as the headlamps. The interior uses a cylindrical twin-lens meter, with a large color liquid crystal multi-information display that displays the operating status of EyeSight and SI-DRIVE in the center of the meter.

In terms of safety performance, EyeSight, an advanced safety technology, has evolved into EyeSight (ver.3). In addition, new functions such as AT erroneous backward movement control and brake lamp recognition control have been added, and the performance of pre-collision braking and cruise control with all vehicle speed tracking functions has been improved.

Unfortunately, orders for the sedan model "B4" ended in June 2020, but sales continue only for the crossover model Outback.
