JDM Traditional Japanese Car Toyota Corolla Levin/Sprinter Trueno
The Corolla Levin/Sprinter Trueno (AE86) is a hot model with a Corolla/Sprinter coupe body and a powerful engine.
The origin of the car name is Trueno in Spanish for "thunder" and "thunder", and Levin in old English for "lightning" and "lightning". It seems to express a powerful and vivid running with lightning running and thunder roaring.
The first generation Corolla Levin/Sprinter Trueno was released in 1972, and the exterior was a Corolla/Sprinter coupe body with overfenders and thick radial tires for a fearless look. There were only two body colors, orange and dark green.
In the interior, all the decorations were removed and it was all black, giving the impression of a competition model.
He was also very active in motor sports, and in rallying in particular, he participated in the WRC (World Rally Championship) as well as in Japan, and left good results.
In 1983, the 4th generation Corolla Levin/Sprinter Trueno was released.
Since the common vehicle model number was AE86, the 4th generation Corolla Levin/Sprinter Trueno was given the name "86 (Hachiroku)".
Also, this AE86 will be the final FR model.
As for the exterior, the Trueno adopted retractable headlights to emphasize its sportiness, while the Levin featured front lights that wrap around to the sides. Body types include a 3-door hatchback and a 2-door coupe.
The powertrain is equipped with a newly developed 4A-GEU type DOHC 16-valve 1.6-liter engine, which has the smooth handling characteristic of FR and the nimble response of 4A-GEU. And because tuning parts are plentiful and easy to maintain, the “86 (Hachiroku)” has gained tremendous popularity among running enthusiasts.
In motor sports, it was active in both races and rallies, and it seems that the 3-door with low air resistance was preferred in the race, and the 2-door with few openings and high body rigidity was preferred in the rally.
Four years later, in 1987, all Corolla/Sprinters were changed to FF.
Also, after the production of the AE86 was discontinued, the AE86 appeared in the mid-1990s as the main character's favorite car in a manga (comic about the world of a mountain pass street racer). With the addition of people who didn't know about "86 (Hachiroku)", it became even more popular, and used car prices soared.
Currently, the lightweight FR sports coupe, which had been discontinued from Toyota's lineup, was commercialized under the name of Toyota 86 in February 2012, allowing you to enjoy the FR sports coupe.
