LEXUS has introduced a new hybrid grade, the LX700h, to its flagship SUV lineup, marking the first time a hybrid system has been equipped in the LX. Sales began on March 27.
The LX700h is a model that achieves electrification while maintaining the signature qualities of the LX—reliability, durability, and off-road capability. It adopts Lexus’s first parallel hybrid system, which places a motor generator with a clutch between the V6 3.5-liter twin-turbo engine and the 10-speed automatic transmission. This system efficiently transfers the high output and torque of both the engine and motor to the road, and can optimally switch between engine-only, motor-only, or combined driving modes depending on the situation.

Even if the hybrid system were to fail, the LX700h is equipped with both an alternator and a starter. The engine can be started using the starter, and the alternator can charge the 12V auxiliary battery, enabling emergency driving using the engine alone.
The hybrid’s main battery, mounted beneath the rear floor, features a waterproof structure, securing a class-equivalent 700mm fording depth. This ensures the vehicle retains its strong off-road performance.
In terms of driving performance, the motor’s torque characteristics provide responsive starts and acceleration at low speeds, and powerful acceleration at high speeds. In off-road situations, motor drive is also available in Low range, offering a balance of excellent drivability and control.
The LX700h is also equipped with a 2,400W power supply function, allowing it to be used for outdoor activities or as an emergency power source during disasters.
To further enhance off-road performance, all models come standard with a center differential lock, and both front and rear differential locks are available. The suspension setup includes exclusive 265/70R18 all-terrain tires—an LX first—designed to balance excellent handling and ride comfort on roads with robust performance off-road.
The LX lineup now includes three grades: LX700h, LX700h Overtrail, and LX700h Executive.
A hybrid SUV that can handle the roughest terrain—why not take the LEXUS LX700h out for a drive?
