Honda has introduced a new package for the CIVIC TYPE R that adds a new dimension of driving pleasure—the “RACING BLACK Package,” which went on sale on January 23. This special edition model was first unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2025, held at Makuhari Messe.

The CIVIC TYPE R is a model that strives to embody the essence of a sports car by balancing “speed,” the core value of a performance model, with “driving pleasure” that resonates with the senses. It was first launched in 2022. The original TYPE R made its debut as part of a minor model change to the sixth-generation Civic in June 1997. Like other TYPE R models, it emphasized weight reduction and featured aerodynamic parts, RECARO bucket seats, a Momo steering wheel with SRS airbag, a titanium shift knob, and the exclusive Championship White body color.

The sixth-generation model, introduced in 2022, emphasizes its sporty nature with a redesigned exterior that includes a larger front grille opening to enhance cooling performance, side sill garnishes with pronounced rear edges, and a rear spoiler supported by aluminum die-cast stays. It is powered by the K20C engine, and thanks to a revamped turbocharger and other improvements, both its maximum output and torque have increased. The tires were developed in collaboration with Michelin and specially tuned for this model, and the wheels feature a reverse-rim structure, where the inner and outer rim shapes are flipped.

The Honda CIVIC TYPE R RACING BLACK Package incorporates a special interior package that reflects Honda’s long-standing racing spirit, built into the current CIVIC TYPE R model.

Inside the CIVIC TYPE R RACING BLACK Package, the entire cabin is unified in black. The dashboard is upholstered with high-quality black suede, and numerous interior components are also coordinated in black. This design minimizes distracting light reflections, creating an environment where the driver can focus more deeply on the road—delivering a new level of driving pleasure.

Key updates include the use of ultra suede for the dashboard and front door linings, and luxe suede in black for the front Honda TYPE R seats. Pinstripe accents have been added to the air-conditioning outlets and front power window switch panels, while the air-conditioning control dials now feature knurled finishes. Additionally, the air-conditioning outlet knobs are finished in black, and special colored stitching has been applied to the seats, steering wheel, shift boot, center console box, and door armrests, enhancing the interior’s exclusive appeal.
