The Daihatsu Rocky debuted in November 2019 as a compact SUV and has gained popularity for its nimble driving performance and practicality. In 2021, a hybrid model was introduced, further enhancing its appeal. The Toyota RAIZE and Subaru REX are OEM-supplied versions of the Rocky.

The Toyota RAIZE was introduced in November 2019 as the smallest SUV in Toyota's domestic lineup, based on the Daihatsu Rocky.

The Subaru REX nameplate was previously used for a kei car sold from 1972 to 1992 before being discontinued in favor of the Subaru Vivio. The current model was relaunched in November 2022 as Subaru’s entry-level SUV, replacing the Crosstrek in that segment.

With a compact body size of 3,995mm in length, 1,695mm in width, and 1,620mm in height, these SUVs offer a strong and rugged design while maintaining a spacious luggage area. They come equipped with large-diameter 17-inch or 16-inch tires, and a tight turning radius of 4.9 to 5.0 meters enhances maneuverability. The Dynamic Torque Control 4WD system provides excellent driving performance, while Daihatsu is responsible for the design, development, and production, integrating its advanced Next-Generation Smart Assist safety technology.

The powertrain lineup includes three options: a 1.0L gasoline turbo engine, a 1.2L gasoline engine, and a 1.2L gasoline + motor hybrid system ("e-SMART HYBRID"). The e-SMART HYBRID system uses a series hybrid approach, where the engine functions solely as a generator, and the vehicle is 100% motor-driven. This simple and compact system is particularly effective for low- to mid-speed urban driving, making it ideal for small city cars.

With this update, the Rocky, RAIZE, and REX now comply with the latest regulations by adding two additional rear sensors, bringing the total to four rear bumper sensors. This enhancement helps prevent accidents in unexpected situations, improving overall safety and driver support. Additionally, the corner sensor activation status is now displayed in the instrument panel, further enhancing safety during reversing maneuvers.

For 2WD models, the cold-weather package is now standard, improving comfort in colder climates.

With these refinements, the Rocky, RAIZE, and REX have become even more attractive compact SUVs with enhanced safety features.
