On October 10, 2024, Mazda unveiled the all-new crossover SUV "CX-80" and began sales on the same day.
The new Mazda CX-80, positioned as the successor to the CX-8, is Mazda's flagship SUV, offering a larger body size than the CX-60 and featuring three-row seating as standard. Designed to provide ample interior space, the CX-80's dimensions exceed those of the CX-8, measuring 4990 mm (length) × 1890 mm (width) × 1710 mm (height) with roof rails, and a wheelbase of 3120 mm. Built on the "Large Platform," introduced with the CX-60, the vehicle features a longitudinal engine layout and a rear-wheel-drive base, delivering exceptional on-road and off-road performance.

The exterior design of the new CX-80 embodies the concept of "Graceful Toughness," with a striking presence achieved through a long nose and a streamlined cabin that emphasize elegance and strength.

Inside, the CX-80 carries forward the design philosophy of the CX-60, incorporating Japanese aesthetics. The interior balances harmony with contrasting elements—referred to as kaicho (harmonization) and hacho (intentional disruption)—to create a dynamic yet serene atmosphere. All models come equipped with a center display, while higher grades feature a 12.3-inch digital meter and a head-up display. Premium features such as Nappa leather seats and a panoramic sunroof are standard in certain grades. Additionally, the vehicle includes voice-activated controls via Amazon Alexa, enabling intuitive operation of functions like air conditioning.

The new CX-80 offers three powertrain options: a 3.3-liter inline-six diesel turbo engine named "XD," a version of the same engine paired with a 48V mild hybrid system called "XD Hybrid," and a plug-in hybrid configuration "PHEV" that combines a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with a large motor and a 17.8 kWh lithium-ion battery. These powertrains are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, with 4WD being the default configuration for most variants, while the XD model also offers a rear-wheel-drive 2WD option.

Safety features in the CX-80 include advanced systems such as the Driver Emergency Response System, which detects driver abnormalities and automatically stops the vehicle (on highways, it pulls over to the shoulder). It also features a Driver Monitoring System integrated with "Cruising & Traffic Support (CTS)" and an emergency stop support function that helps mitigate risks caused by driver inattention or distraction, enhancing overall driving safety.
