The first-generation Honda FREED was launched in May 2008, and the second generation appeared in September 2016. The newly announced model is the third generation, marking a full model change after eight years.

In the exterior of the Honda FREED, the air model is designed with a clean and sophisticated look for families, while the Crosstar features a custom front grille, lower garnish, wheel arch protectors, and roof rails, offering an active style. The headlamps and front grille are arranged horizontally, and the previously horizontal rear combination lamps have been changed to vertical LED lamps in the new model. The vertical rear combination lamps are positioned to straddle the rear gate, highlighting a stable trapezoidal design.

Inside the Honda FREED, the interior is designed under the concept of "a space where people can operate without stress and feel relaxed due to its visually noise-free simple layout." Previously, a long horizontal meter was placed on top of the dashboard, but in the new model, a 7-inch LCD display is located behind the steering wheel. The meter panel's display design is focused on driving, with minimal essential information like speed and current time, aiming for ease of reading and understanding. The center panel is intuitively arranged with switches for driving-related operations and climate control, allowing easy operation while driving. Additionally, various storage spaces have been cleverly shaped and are more plentifully placed. The seat upholstery uses a dirt-resistant and pleasant-to-touch fabric. The air model uses a warm, living-room-like material, and the Crosstar features a two-tone outdoor-like coordination of black and khaki.

The Honda FREED's powertrain offers two options: Honda's unique two-motor hybrid system "e:HEV" and a gasoline engine. The "e:HEV" combines a 106 PS 1.5-liter inline-four engine with a 123 PS motor, while the gasoline engine combines a 118 PS 1.5-liter inline-four engine with a CVT that includes a full-throttle step-up shift control. Both e:HEV and gasoline versions offer 4WD options.

The safety features of the Honda FREED include the "Honda SENSING" safety driving support system, which uses a front wide-view camera and eight sonar sensors front and rear, now standard on all grades.
