SUBARU BRZ Introduces Cup Car Basic

SUBARU announced the BRZ "Cup Car Basic" on April 8, 2024.

The SUBARU BRZ "Cup Car Basic" is a grade developed as a participation vehicle for the one-make race "TOYOTA GAZOO Racing GR86/BRZ Cup," which has been held since 2022. The "Cup Car Basic" is planned and sold by SUBARU, with the company's motorsport division, Subaru Tecnica International, installing dedicated equipment.

The TGR GR86/BRZ Cup continues the TGR 86/BRZ Race held from 2013 to 2021 using the previous generation Toyota 86/SUBARU BRZ (model: ZN6/ZC6) and transitions to a one-make race using the new generation GR86/SUBARU BRZ (model: ZN8/ZD8). Only "GR86 Cup Car Basic" or "SUBARU BRZ Cup Car Basic" vehicles are eligible for participation.

This series consists of two series: the "Professional Series" and the "Clubman Series." The "Professional Series" will feature many top drivers actively participating in SUPER GT. In contrast, the "Clubman Series" will be exclusive to amateur drivers, including gentleman drivers, with professional certified drivers ineligible for participation.

Additional equipment added to the "Cup Car Basic" includes 6-point seat belt eye bolts and air-cooled engine oil coolers as dedicated equipment. Various equipment specifications have been optimally configured for use as a base vehicle for racing. Additionally, due to the standard installation of EyeSight on the base vehicle, the shape of the roll cage has been revised compared to the 2022 model of "Cup Car Basic." With EyeSight installed, the grade accommodates not only users participating in competitions but also meets the demands of some users seeking a more Spartan model.

Other dedicated equipment for the "Cup Car Basic" includes the removal of SRS side airbags and SRS curtain airbags, installation of a canceller, roll cage-specific floor mats, engine sealing, and rear differential cooling fins (differential carrier with fins).

The body color options for the "Cup Car Basic" include WR Blue Pearl, Ignition Red, Sapphire Blue Pearl, Crystal White Pearl, Ice Silver Metallic, Magnetite Gray Metallic, and Crystal Black Silica, totaling seven colors.

In terms of powertrain, the "Cup Car Basic" is equipped with the same 2.4-liter horizontally opposed 4-cylinder engine as the regular grade. It only comes with a 6-speed manual transmission and maintains the FR (rear-wheel-drive) drivetrain without any changes from the base vehicle.
