Honda has released a partially improved version of its luxury minivan, the "ODYSSEY," on December 8th.
The upgraded ODYSSEY features design changes to the front grille, full electrification of the second-row seats, and updates to the latest specifications of Honda Sensing and Honda Connect, enhancing convenience and evolving into a more comfortable ODYSSEY.
The first-generation "ODYSSEY" was born in 1994 and became a huge hit due to its low floor and Honda's unique driving performance. The current fifth-generation model, released in 2013, saw the end of domestic production in Japan at the end of 2021 due to the closure of the Sayama assembly plant. However, with the prospect of re-entry using global resources, it has been partially improved and released this time.
In this round of partial improvements to the ODYSSEY, it inherits the sedan-like stability and styling that characterized past ODYSSEYs with an ultra-low floor platform, emphasizing a wide feel by enlarging the grille opening, enhancing luxury by combining a protruding design with a horizontal theme of five chrome bars, and placing the Honda "H" emblem further forward to increase the protrusion of the front, resulting in a powerful and substantial design.
The powertrain of the "ODYSSEY" consists only of a 2.0-liter hybrid engine, with three grades: "e:HEV ABSOLUTE," "e:HEV ABSOLUTE EX," and the newly introduced "e:HEV ABSOLUTE EX BLACK EDITION."
In terms of utility, the second-row seats now feature 4-way power seats. By newly electrifying the operation of the ottoman and reclining, precise adjustments are possible, enabling a more comfortable seating posture. Additionally, the second-row seats are equipped with seat heaters, a foldable center table, armrests with mini-tables, and USB chargers (Type-C) under the seats as standard equipment on all types, enhancing comfort.
The third-row seats continue to adopt the under-floor storage seats from the previous model, improving both the large-capacity luggage space and convenience.
On the driving side, the ODYSSEY introduces for the first time as an ODYSSEY the "Deceleration Selector" and the "Electric Gear Selector," which allows smooth shifting with just one finger.
For the safety driving support system "Honda Sensing" of the ODYSSEY, "Short-distance Collision Mitigation Braking," "Auto High Beam," and "Rapid Acceleration Suppression Function" have been added. Additionally, by widening the angle of the front camera, the detection range of collision mitigation braking has been expanded, enabling detection of crossing vehicles, oncoming vehicles during right turns, crossing bicycles, motorcycles, and pedestrians at night, enhancing peace of mind.
Why not take a drive with the re-emerged and more attractive ODYSSEY?
