In October 2023, MAZDA announced extensive improvements to its compact open sports car, the "ROADSTER," and began accepting reservations. The official release is scheduled for January 2024.

The ROADSTER, a lightweight and compact open sports car, was first introduced in 1989 and is currently in its fourth generation, which was introduced in 2015. While it has seen updates over the years, the latest round of improvements is touted as the most substantial yet. The development slogan for this iteration is "More ROADSTER," aiming to enhance the ROADSTER's exhilarating driving experience while complying with new safety regulations, refining its design, and evolving safety features and connected systems.

On the exterior, the ROADSTER features new designs for its lamps and wheels. Daytime running lights have been relocated from the bumper corners to within the headlamps, and turn indicators have been upgraded to LED, with their design emphasizing speed and the essence of a lightweight sports car. The taillights maintain their basic circular and elliptical shape but have been redesigned with inspiration from jet engine afterburners.

In terms of wheels, MAZDA has differentiated designs for 16-inch and 17-inch options. The 16-inch wheels prioritize functionality and lightness, while the 17-inch wheels offer a more luxurious appearance suitable for higher-tier models. Additionally, the available body colors have been updated, with "Aero Gray Metallic" replacing the previous "Platinum Quartz."

Inside the ROADSTER, all grades except for "S," "NR-A," and "S Special Package" have seen the center console wrapped in stitched leather. The black seat covers have also been revised, incorporating a new "Reganu" material with a suede-like texture in the center. The 3-gauge instrument cluster has been updated, with the central speedometer now using a digital LCD display.

Furthermore, an 8.8-inch center display has been added, featuring functions and services that allow owners to check their vehicle's status via smartphone apps and access "Connected Services," which can automatically arrange for emergency services like ambulances in the event of an accident.

Regarding the ROADSTER's powertrain, the "SKYACTIV-G 1.5" engine has received specialized tuning to match domestic high-octane gasoline, improving combustion efficiency, enhancing acceleration, and increasing maximum output by 3 kW (approximately 4 PS). For the manual transmission models, both "SKYACTIV-G 1.5" and "SKYACTIV-G 2.0" engines have incorporated the latest drive control logic. Additionally, to make motorsports safer and more enjoyable, a "DSC-TRACK" mode has been added to the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system, optimized for circuit driving.

In terms of safety features, the ROADSTER now includes automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and rear-side vehicle detection, along with the introduction of "MAZDA Radar Cruise Control (MRCC)" and "Smart Brake Support [Rear Cross traffic alert (SBS-RC)]."
