In September 2023, Toyota made some improvements to its pickup truck, the "HILUX."

The HILUX serves as Toyota's globally marketed mid-sized pickup truck and is the only pickup truck available for new vehicle sales in Japan. The current model was introduced in 2017 and is produced entirely in Thailand.

One distinctive feature of the HILUX is its unique "convex" silhouette, composed of the front section, cabin, and bed (cargo area), which is a hallmark design element for pickup trucks. In the Japanese market, it is only available in a 4-door double cab configuration, with no options for a 2-door regular cab or extra cab. The body is made of anti-corrosion steel plates, with a particular focus on using zinc-plated steel plates for the deck of the cargo area, ensuring high anti-corrosion performance.

In this latest upgrade to the HILUX, the "Z" grade now comes equipped with a panoramic view monitor, a backup monitor, and a display audio system with navigation as standard features. Additionally, the body color has been changed from the existing "Super White II" to the new "Platinum White Pearl Mica."

The exterior of the HILUX sees no major changes, with the inclusion of a large hexagonal grille and LED headlights with auto-leveling function for the "Z" grade.

Inside the HILUX, the design around the instrument panel emphasizes curves, giving it a more passenger car-like appearance. Air conditioning is automatic for the "Z" grade and manual for the "X" grade. Both "X" and "Z" variants feature fabric upholstery for the seats. The rear seats in the "X" are a single-piece design, while the "Z" offers a 6:4 split-fold function for the seat cushion and includes a center armrest with cupholders.

In terms of powertrain, all models now come with a 2.4-liter diesel engine that includes an idle-stop mechanism. This engine delivers over 15% improved fuel efficiency in JC08 mode compared to the previous 11.8 km per liter, achieving 13.6 km per liter. The transmission is a 6-speed automatic with the option for manual shifting via the shift selector. Additionally, it offers "Power Mode" and "Eco Mode" driving modes. The drivetrain is a part-time 4WD with a transfer case, controlled by a dial-type controller.

On the safety front, the HILUX comes standard with features such as pre-collision safety, lane departure alert, and clearance sonar & backup sonar to warn of approaching stationary objects. There have been no changes to the specifications in terms of safety.

Why not consider taking the HILUX pickup truck for a camping trip?
