GR86 RZ "40th Anniversary Limited" Makes Its Debut

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing has enhanced the GR86 with additional safety features and improved driving performance, releasing a limited quantity and time special edition, the GR86 RZ "40th Anniversary Limited," in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the GR86's predecessor, the AE86, and as a token of appreciation to numerous sports car enthusiasts.

The GR86, developed with SUBARU technology to realize the "Intuitive Handling FR" concept, emphasizing driving enjoyment, is a 2-door coupe-style sports car characterized by its small size, light weight, low center of gravity, and low inertia. The first-generation 86 was launched in February 2012, and the current model, which debuted in 2021, is the second generation. Additionally, it was announced as the third global model of "GR" and was renamed "GR 86."


Based on the RZ grade, the GR86 RZ "40th Anniversary Limited" features two body colors: "Spark Red" and "Crystal White Pearl." Furthermore, it will have special decals reminiscent of the AE86's red × black and white × black two-tone color schemes. The door handles have also been changed from the body color to Crystal Black Silica. Moreover, brembo-manufactured ventilated disc brakes and SACHS (ZF) absorbers will be specially equipped as a result of the improvements. It will also come with 215/45R18 tires from Michelin "Pilot Sport 4," paired with dark grey metallic painted aluminum wheels.


Inside the GR86 RZ "40th Anniversary Limited," numerous exclusive logos and decorative features evoke the history of the AE86. The predominantly black interior is accented with red stitching, and 40th-anniversary GR floor mats are optionally available. The genuine leather-wrapped steering wheel is adorned with an additional GR logo, and elements such as the shift area and VSC switch are changed from satin silver to black paint. Additionally, air-conditioning dials and piano touch switches are now in cast black paint, replacing the satin silver embellishments in the base model with a cast black paint for a subdued impression. The seat upholstery features a combination color of black and red, the perforation has changed from silver to black, and 40th-anniversary embroidery is added to the door trim.

In terms of the powertrain for the GR86 RZ "40th Anniversary Limited," the engine remains the "FA24" type horizontally opposed engine, and you can choose between a 6MT and 6AT for the transmission. The safety driving assist system, EyeSight, is also installed in the 6MT, enhancing safety features.

The GR86 RZ "40th Anniversary Limited" is planned to go on sale around February 2024, after a lottery.
