Subaru BRZ Special Edition: STI Sport PURPLE EDITION Unveiled

On January 9, Subaru announced the launch of a special edition BRZ model, the “STI Sport PURPLE EDITION.” This limited model will be available in both 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic versions, with only 200 units offered.

The BRZ is a rear-wheel-drive sports car with a front-mounted 2.4-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine. The current model, referred to as the “Type D,” was introduced in July 2024 alongside the GR86. This Type D update includes refinements related to driving performance, as well as practical and safety upgrades shared with the GR86.

The “STI Sport PURPLE EDITION” is based on the top-grade “STI Sport” model. Its most distinctive feature is the exclusive exterior body color “Galaxy Purple Pearl.” The “STI Sport” grade was introduced in a minor update in September 2023 and is equipped with STI-tuned suspension. The damper tuning enhances cornering response by drawing out lateral force from the inner wheels right from the initial steering input, resulting in highly responsive handling.

The front suspension features STI-tuned SFRD front dampers manufactured by Hitachi Astemo, achieving a balance between a comfortable ride and sharp, sporty performance.

For the exterior, the “STI Sport PURPLE EDITION” pairs the Galaxy Purple Pearl body color with 18-inch aluminum wheels finished in high-luster coating. The BRZ rear emblem and door mirrors are finished in black, giving the car a more aggressive look. Braking performance is enhanced with Brembo ventilated discs and gold calipers—4-pot in the front and 2-pot in the rear—both 17 inches in size.

Inside, the special edition features a leather-wrapped steering wheel and handbrake lever with silver stitching, using high-touch leather for a premium feel. The black and gray UltraSuede and genuine leather combination seats are also accented with silver stitching. Silver and gray accents are further applied to the seats and shift area, completing an elegant and refined cabin design.

The powertrain remains unchanged from the base model, with a 2.4-liter DOHC 16-valve horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine featuring dual AVCS.
