Connection work between drive recorder and head unit.

28 February 2022

Hello, this is Kazuhiro!
Today is Saturday, a day off. In Japan at the end of February, the temperature is still low and it often snows, butToday was a great day for car work, which was relatively warm (although the outside temperature was 8 degrees Celsius).

There are two tasks today.

One is the connection between the drive recorder and the head unit (Alpine EX11V series).
I installed the drive recorder the other day, but the connection with the head unit was not completed.

I didn't connect it because I didn't need to watch the video of the drive recorder on the head unit, but I decided to connect it because it has a video input / output function.

The other is the installation of the HDMI cable on the head unit.
Since the head unit has an HDMI input port, you can connect an external resource such as a smartphone by adding a cable.
Children who tend to get bored with long drives will be able to enjoy their time in the car.

Let's start removing the head unit right away.
First, remove the covers on both sides of the shift knob. The cover can be easily removed by pulling it toward you.
Remove the other side in the same way.

Then remove the silver instrument panel around the head unit.
However, because this panel is firmly fixed, it requires a great deal of force to remove.
Protect your fingers with a towel to prevent them from being injured, and take the plunge and pull them toward you.
The panel came off at the same time as the clicking sound.

Next, remove the bezel where the switch of the head unit is located.
This part can also be removed by simply pulling it toward you.
Unlike the instrument panel, this is relatively easy to remove.

Finally, remove the bracket that secures the head unit.
The bracket is bolted in four places.
The head unit can be safely removed by removing the bolts.

Plug in the dashcam and HDMI cable and test.
Both the drive recorder and HDMI were output without any problems.

After that, arrange the wiring and restore it by reversing the procedure when removing the cover etc.
Approximately 1 hour to complete all processes.
The difficulty is low and if you know how to remove the panel, you don't need any other knowledge.
It may seem difficult at first glance, but if you have asked a professional mechanic to do these tasks, please refer to this article and try to do it yourself.
Your love for your car may grow.
